No Rest For The Wicked

Ranger Log #40: The First Rift

Tyranny
Sunsebb 28, the last day of the year. When the moon is at its darkest.

It was nearing midnight and a bitter cold was carried by a howling wind, it stung with a taste of frostbite as the darkness blanketed the land. A clearing below in the thick surrounding forest. I saw the ceremony was about to begin.

Floating.

This was the first word to come into Arneth’s mind. She felt as though she were floating.

But how? She was pretty sure she had died in battle. Even if she had somehow been revived, she did not feel the weight of the armor she wore. Her hair seemingly tickled the back of her arm, a light breeze caressed her uncovered skin, and a slight sound of rustling cloth could be heard.

It was only then did Arneth open her eyes.

A Death

Trusty as usual, Arneth awoke naturally after a fully restful night of sleep.

She wasn’t sure what time it was, or if her room companions (Valyn and Casual Friday) were also up, but Arneth took this time to think.

The day before the group had somehow managed to completely disintegrate within the span of only a couple of minutes. She wasn’t sure exactly what had transpired, she only knew that Falkrunn and Valyn had begun physically fighting.

“I like it long.”

Arneth stopped toying with the tips of her hair and stared up at Caine.

“What?” she replied dumbly.

“I like your hair long.” He repeated and smiled at her. “I can tell by the look on your face that you were thinking of cutting it.”

She went back to gazing at her auburn hair and running the stands through her fingers. Her brows furrowed and she puckered her lips. “But it gets in the way when I fight.”

The End is Near
Stone Dragons and Soggy Dwarfs,

Falkrunn

I was up before the others and pacing the Common Room. Although I tried to roust my companions, no one was paying any attention to me. Spunky Girl and Tree Hugger were spooning in one of the Guards Room and the others were in the other Barracks with That Elf. I was restless. I was rested. I wanted to Go Forth to Meet My Destiny. When I was examining the bars of the Gate (I might have been shaking them just a little in frustration), I saw a crumpled note and a bag just out of reach on the other side. With that information, I could finally lure the Iron Maiden out. (She had been taking the curlers out of her hair. As if she wasn’t going to end up with Helmet Hair in an hour! Although it does make the slow motion head shake when she first takes off her helmet that much more impressive…)

Valyn - Log 10

Valyn

“Wake up, Valyn” a voice said, the words floating in the air like a sweet melody. Valyn continued keeping his eyes shut, hoping to fool the owner of the voice into leaving. Footsteps moved about the room and stopped, the curtains were being drawn open and the morning sunshine poured into the room, lighting the back of his eyelids.

Ranger Log #140 : The Rift

Tyranny
I start this story after being nursed back to health. After a very gruesome battle had ended, I awoke to see a new hero in the darkness. Unexpected, but totally appreciated, a lone dwarf had been sent my Lord Padraig to help with the closing of the rift, had he not arrived I fear I would not be writing this now and Orkis’ demon taint would have entered our lands. I feel relief that it is over, hopefully the last time I encounter a rift in this life.

Valyn - Log 9

Valyn

The cleric snores as I write this. I’ve started this entry about a hundred times, knew it was too angry and started over. Well, that’s how I feel right now, so why shouldn’t it be? Because it would only cause further strife, that’s why. I really need to be the more mature, more intelligent being and put an end to it seeing as how the group I run with is a bit short on both accounts, save for our paladin.

Nixie

Once we decided to move on, we headed down a small staircase where we all stopped mid-track. We saw 2 hobgoblins standing next to a well, one looked asleep the other was figity. I didn’t know whether or not I wanted to sneak but Falkrunn decided EFF it and took off charging toward the two hobgoblins. She was running so fast I decided to catch up to her (in case she ran into the well I could throw a rope down). She stopped just at the right moment and brutally smashed into the sleepy hobgoblin with her weapon. With the creature teetering on the edge, she then smiled and blew and he fell to the bottom of the well. She was in a fury so she hit the hobgoblin that was in front of me, which I finished off with a slice of my blade. It was then that I looked up and said in a high pitched voice, “EEEEKK I REALLY DON’T LIKE SPIDERS”. What I saw a little ways away was a ginormous tarantula looking thing. One of its legs was the size of me.
